Week 14, Bonao, Dominican Republic

My 3 Messes Celebration

Hola Familia y Amigos,

I don't know where my mission has gone...seriously.. This week marks 3 months in the mission! Ahhhh I need to work harder! But I'm happy and I love every second of my mission.

Lunes we had Family Home Evening with a member named Ceserina and her grand kids. Half of her children aren't members of the church and the others half are less active in the church and don't attend church very often. It was fun to see Ceserina sing the hymns because she gets really into them. But I also loved seeing her share her testimony to her grand kids.

Martes, Patricia (our investigator who just got baptized) helped us out with our other lessons. I loved seeing her share her testimony because it is so fresh and strong. She knows the difference between having the gospel in her life and not having the gospel in her life, and she is excited and so willing to share it with others around her.

Miercoles we had lunch with Leonida and Patricia...again... We are not very good at saying no to them and they love to give! They are such great examples of Christ-like love and service.

We also had the chance to teach our new investigator family: Rosanna, Julio and their 2 daughters. They are super cute and love talking to us and learning more about the church which is great because we love teaching them. They ask very good questions and you can tell that they want to change and have the gospel in their lives. They always say, ¨We are so grateful to hear the word of God in our home.¨ They accepted the invitation to be baptized and seem super excited.

We also taught Poulicia. She is the friend of Miguelina (another investigator) Poulicia only speaks Creole so Miguelina translates for us. Its incredible how the gospel is so important, but it is simple and can be understood by everyone in simple terms. It is that important that our Heavenly Father wants everyone to understand it. We teach very simply to Poulicia, but the spirit we feel while teaching these simple concepts is amazing. I love this gospel and I KNOW that its true. There is no way that it isn't true.

Jueves, after our lessons, we had extra time before our meeting with the ward mission leader. I had the feeling to go visit a member (Hermana Deleon.) She is an older lady and is super cute. We shared a message with her and just visited with her. She told us that she was feeling sad today and that we cheered up her day. Its amazing how the spirit works and how we knew we needed to visit her. As we were talking to her, her cat came in the room and kept biting our ankles. I don't know why, but we all just started laughing and couldn't stop! I don't think my abs have ever gotten that good of a work out ever. We were all crying by the end of it from laughing too hard. Oh Hermana DeLeon.

Viernes we made cookies to bring to our investigators, members and new neighbors. It was fun delivering them. These people are so special to me and I don't ever want to leave Bonao.

Sabado we taught a friend of Leonida and Patricia. Our investigators are awesome and are so great at sharing the gospel! We also taught Nicauri again. Her baptism is coming up and Satan is working really hard to make it not happen. It's important to remember that Everything Good comes from God and everything bad comes from Satan. Remember that God is more powerful and loves you and is always their to help you! Pray and ask for help and have a real intent and have faith that you can receive an answer.

Domingo Julio and his daughter came to church (Rosanna was working:( ) Miguelina and her kids came again too. They are ready for their baptisms and it's coming up really soon! Ceserinas grand kids also came to church! I love Sundays! Its the most important day of the week, and I love seeing our investigators progress and learn more and feel the spirit while at church!

Alma 29:9 says that all things are through God. All my success is the Lord's success. I really could not do anything without the Lord. I love seeing these people come unto Christ, and I love that I have the opportunity to be an instrument in the Lords work. He is always here. He lives. He loves each and every one of us individually. He wants us to be happy and that is why he gave us this gospel of Jesus Christ. I love this gospel and I KNOW its true!

Fun Fact: The game Dominos is really big here and people get really into it. They slam their tiles on the table and play really fast. Its really entertaining to watch.

I love you all! Remember that you are not alone! PRAY

Let your light shine!
Stand firm
I love you
Don't break the stick :)

Week 13, Bonao, Dominican Republic

Teaching the goats

Last District Meeting with Elder Paulino

Hola Familia y Amigos,

I have never been so happy in my life! I love being on a mission and teaching and helping the people here in the Dominican Republic.

Martes was our last District meeting before transfers. Elder Paulino is being transferred to Santiago! He was a great District leader and taught me a ton! He will be missed, but I know that other people need him in Santiago.

We also had the chance to teach Leonida and Patricia. During our lesson I saw Leonida's teenage son, Andy, reading the Book of Mormon in the backyard! We always invite him to listen, but he always says no...But then he goes into the other room and listens to us. I'm not sure how to get him to come listen to us, but I'm hopeful that he will join the church some day.

We also went to President Garcia's house and had dinner and said goodbye to Elder Paulino. It was super sad, but it is part of Heavenly Fathers plan.

Miercoles, in the morning, we dug up Miguelinas backyard. It was full of weeds, trash, grass, rocks and little trees from the last owner of the house. We fixed it all up, and it looks super nice now. One of Miguelinas friends helped us, and we are now teaching him! Before he had a bad view of Mormons, but now he was super interested in our message. It softened his heart to see us help Miguelina. It opened my eyes to how important it is to serve and to be a good representative of Christ.

Jueves, Miguelina gave us 3 more references of friends who she thought would want to hear about the gospel. They all only speak creole soooo it's interesting to teach them. We have to have Miguelina, and another member who speaks creole, translate for us.

We taught Leonida and Patricia about temples and Patricia said, "I want to be married in the temple for eternity." Soo cute! I love her!

We had our weekly meeting with the branch missionary president and the Elders and met our new District leader, Elder Morfin. He is from Mexico and looks like David Archuleta but taller. He has been on a mission for 8 months and is such a great missionary. He is the only active member in his family and his testimony is super strong.
Viernes, we went with Miguelina and two branch members who have the Priesthood and gave Miguelina's friend's child a blessing. It made me happy to see the faith of Miguelina and her friend. It also made me realize that we have this power from God on the Earth for a reason! With the proper authority and faith we should use it if we need it! It is on the Earth to bless and help us.

We also invited Jose, Juana and Jesus to be baptized. They all said yes, but Jose and Juana need to find Juana's birth certificate so they can get married first. It made me happy to see them take this step of faith. Now they just need to have faith and continue to have faith and endure.

It was fun to teach Nicauri today because Patricia came with us as a member to help with the lesson! It was fun to see her faith and testimony as a new member! She is super cute and has such a strong testimony.

Sabado we visited a member; she had her grandchildren at her house. We taught them as well. Some were members but not active, and the others weren't members. It was awesome to see their grandma bare her testimony to her grandchildren and see how much she loved the gospel and knows that it was true. I loved seeing her grandchildren just soak up our message and their grandpa's testimony.

Domingo her grandchildren all attended church with her.

Miguelina also brought her friend to church, and even though her friend didn't understand all of the Spanish you could tell that she felt peace and the spirit. I love Heavenly Father! I love how the Holy Ghost works through people. I might not speak perfect Spanish, and people might not always understand, but I know that the spirit can work through me and can touch the hearts of the people to let them know that this church is true; to let them know that their Heavenly Father loves them.

After church we contacted a lot and found more people to teach. We found a couple, Julio and Rosanna (they have kids too). We also found Berta, Carmen, and Anna who were all interested in the words of Christ.

This week was awesome, however every week is super awesome! I know I say it a lot but I really love this opportunity to teach people. I know God lives. I know Jesus Christ lives. I know that they love every person on this Earth and they want everyone to return to God again!

Mosiah 2:41- If we keep the commandments, have faith and endure to the end then we will have NEVER ENDING happiness! That is a lot of happiness. I want that and I want everyone to have the never ending happiness too!

I hope you all have a great week! I love you!

Week 12, Bonao Dominican Republic

Patricia's Baptism

Hola Amigos y Familia,

This week was Amazing!

All the youth and youth leaders in the branch were at a youth camp this week so pretty much no members were home this week. It made lessons with members really hard, but we survived. One of our investigators (Nicauri) was also at camp which is awesome! I kept thinking that we need to visit her, but she wasn't even home!

Martes we had the chance to help plan Patricia's baptism. It was fun to talk with her and the ward members about her baptism, and it made everyone super excited. It was also fun to reflect on my baptism and remember the covenants that I made at that time and the blessing that I received after my baptism.

We also taught Miguelina and her two kids (Sandy and Magdalena) They are progressing really fast and are super excited to get baptized! We are excited too! They are such a cute family, and it's fun to see them learn and grow and have an excitement for the gospel.

Miercoles was interesting; Patricia had her baptism interview, but before her interview we got to talk with her. She said that her and her sister, Leonida (other investigator), had read anti Mormon stuff about the church online. They talked about it and then bore their testimonies to each other and knew that the church was true. It was a testimony to me that Satan is real and is real smart, but our Heavenly Father is smarter. He loves us. We got to testify to them that when we have questions about things that its important to go straight to the source for answers; Read the scriptures, ask the missionaries, PRAY to your Heavenly Father! The Holy Ghost is there to testify the truth of all things.

Viernes we had lunch at an investigators house. I'm not quite such what I ate. It kind of looked like liver, lungs, heart and brains haha, but I just pretended like it was chicken. Oh how I love the mission.

We also had the chance to get lectured by some crazy man who quoted scriptures at us. Its fun when that happens. We just bore our testimonies to him and then left.

After a lot of prayer we found 3 new investigators: Jose Antonio and his wife Juana, and a friend of Leonida and Patricias, Jesus. Jesus is awesome. He knows the church is true and bore his testimony to Jose Antonio and Juana during a lesson! So cool!

We also got to watch The Restoration video with Leonida, Patricia and Jesus. I can watch that movie over and over again! Its so powerful and makes me so grateful for this gospel every time I watch it.

Saturday was the best. We cleaned the church with the Elders in the morning and prepared for the Patrica's baptism. We also got to talk to Nicauri who got home from camp. When we saw her she was a totally new person. You could see the light of Christ radiating out of her! She was so excited to see us and told us that she wanted to be baptized right then and that she knows the church is true. She bore her testimony to us. I was so proud of her! This is why I'm on my mission! I love seeing people's lives change! I love seeing them receive the blessings and happiness that comes from the gospel!

Patricia's baptism was the best! She was so happy. When her sister Leonida saw her all in white she was in shock. She was so happy and you could see that she wanted the same thing that her sister had. Right before the ordinance of baptism Patricia gave us a big hug and thanked us. I kinda lost it. I was so excited for her and happy. After her baptism she was a new person. I don't even know how to explain it! haha but it was super cool to experience.

Yesterday Patricia received the gift of the Holy Ghost. It was also awesome to experience. All the members who participated in camp also got to bare their testimonies and share their experiences. Nicauri also got to bare her testimony and she did an awesome job. I love seeing the change in her and listening to her testimony.

It was fun to look at Patricia yesterday. She looked so different and so happy.

After church we visited members and received several references. Members are so important in missionary work and I'm grateful for them.

Alma 9:28
Amla 32:41-43

We will reap the rewards of our faith and works. Its important that we do all we can do good in this life. And then we will receive blessing in heaven

I love all of you! I love the mission so much! It is the best thing that I have even done. I have learned so much and continue to learn every day! I love my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ! They are my world! With out them I have nothing. I KNOW with out a doubt in my heart and mind that this church is true! I love this gospel!

Have a great week!

Week 11, Bonao and Santiago Dominican Republic

July 4, 2016

Hola Familia y Amigos,

I don't have much time because we went to Santiago for P-day today, but I'm doing awesome and loving my mission. I'm learning so much, and I love teaching and helping people come unto Christ.

Martes at district meeting Elder Poulino asked me to do training! With a lot of help from the Lord, I was able to teach our district all in Spanish! Yeah.. It's amazing what you can do with Heavenly Father's help.

We had some awesome lessons with our investigators this week.

Patricia gets baptized this week and she is super excited and so ready to make this big step in her life! I'm excited for her too. This is such a great choice that she is making and I can't wait for her to see the rewards from getting baptized.

Miguelina and her two kids are also getting baptized soon. They learn slow, but the things that they do know they know so well, and they have such strong faith and a belief in the things we have taught them.

Nicauri really wants to get baptized and the few youth that we have in our branch have really helped her out. She is super cute and asks really good questions.

We have two new, really strong investigators; Ana Silvia and Nancy Luna. Ana Silvia accepted our invitation to get baptized. Her faith is strong. I love listening to the people we teach talk about their experiences with reading and praying.

Patricia's testimony is amazing, and I love listening to it. Its so new and her faith is so strong. You can just see in her eyes that she knows the things we teach her are truth.

We taught Yajaira about the Book of Mormon, and I love the way she holds her Book of Mormon. It's so cute and I think we all need to love the Book of Mormon the way she does. This book has the answers to everything!

2 Nephi 33:10
2 Nephi 25:26

If you believe in Christ, then you believe in the Book of Mormon, and if you believe in the Book of Mormon and the Bible, you believe in Christ. They both teach of each other, and they are both true.

I love this gospel, and I love that I have this opportunity to serve my Heavenly Father and teach others about His gospel. I love you all and hope you have an awesome, safe week.
